Sherman Architecture is primarily involved with single family home design and construction in the Minneapolis area, but we are interested in all forms of housing that shape our environment. A fairly recent phenomenon is the type of multifamily described in this article: four to seven story housing blocks, often rental apartments with steel balconies. They are typically wood framed above the first floor, usually with commercial space on the first floor, and ubiquitous in most urban areas. We have some concerns about whether this type of construction, form of ownership, and design implications are good for the developers more so than the residents and the community. What do you think?
